About

One change to the business model, carried all the way through.

PAXO is a rideshare platform being built in Pittsburgh by Paxo Technologies LLC. The idea is small enough to state in a sentence: charge a driver for a day of driving rather than a share of every trip, and quote the rider a flat fare before they book.

Why this way round

A per-trip cut makes surge inevitable

If a platform earns a percentage of every fare, raising fares at busy times is the most direct thing it can do for its own revenue. We would rather not have that incentive at all than promise to resist it.

A flat $25.00 Day Pass does not get bigger when it rains. Neither does the quote.

A price you cannot check is not a price

The fare is computed once, centrally, from published constants, and the quote shows the lines that make it up. The apps render that breakdown; they never do arithmetic of their own.

That rule exists because the previous version of this product had a fare calculator on the phone and a percentage typed into a web page, and the two disagreed.

Where things stand

PAXO has not launched. We are preparing to operate in Pennsylvania pending approval from the Pennsylvania Public Utility Commission, and we do not have an approval date to share. Nothing on this site is an offer to provide transportation services, an offer of employment, or an offer of an independent contractor engagement.

Pittsburgh, PA is the first service area. It is where the company is, which makes it the one place we can fix a problem the same afternoon we hear about it.
